Key Club Show - May 20th, 1999
Up first ... the Ska Daddyz. They played a great set including their versions of The Eagles classic "Hotel California" and Sublime's "Bad Fish". They got some people up and dancing, but most people were just kickin' back watching. When they finished their set, the handed the stage over to AOF.
As AOF took the stage, faithful followers of the Army grew quiet and turned their attention to the stage. We were ready for a phenominal show, and that's pretty much what we got.
As the set went on the crowd on the dance floor grew. The waitresses, bartenders, security guards, and even the cooks (who were peaking out of the kitchen) could be seen groovin' to the sounds of the Army. As always the guys were lookin' pretty hot! :) Chris was in his usual white button-up with black cords, Owen had on a black 'Security'polo and jeans, Mike was wearing a really nice lookin' sweater and cords, One was sportin' a red bowling shirt with the name Elvis on it and dark slacks, Jon was shirtless as always (and it's that what the girls love the most about him?), Aaron was in a sweet shiny blue and white swirled shirt and jeans, and Dan was in khakis and a black button up. For this particular show, Seth joined the band on stage decked out in a grey suit, tamborine in hand.
Chris did a fabulous job on vocals and guitar, and he was so full of energy! You could tell that he was havin' a good time. Dispite not feeling well, One kept rockin' and smilin'. Though he wasn't as active as he usually is, he did a great job of keeping the energy high. Owen, seeming to have a bit of a sore throat, handled keys and vocals in his usual fun-loving fashion, and he sounded damn good doing it too! Mike was again a bit hidden (this time behind Owen) but you could definately hear and feel him as usual. Jon was slammin' like krazy once again! Shirtless and shiny (sweaty really! ~hehe~), he attracted plenty of attention from the ladies. Now, my favorite part of the Army...the horns! Aaron and Dan were fabulous! :) They were their usual selves, dancin' and wailin'. Highlights from Seth's performance were when he got a little over-zealous and broke his tamborine (sending peices flying onto the dance floor), and when he poured a bottle of water over his head soaking himself and the stage!
The guys played a ten song set :
Bored Game
(Just Another Song About A) Fallen Angel
Lonely Bong
Matador
Castle Comes First
Set Me Off
Suzanne
Masters of the Universe
Boardwalk Braveheart
Jefe Goes Home
Starting off with "Bored Game" was a way to get the attention of everyone in the house. Following that with "Fallen Angel" showed some of the variety of songs the guys play, and was the perfect way to lead into "Lonely Bong", a song everyone loved. Playing "Matador" after "Lonely Bong" kept the energy of the room alive. The beginning of "Castle Comes First" came at a great moment for everyone on the dance floor to catch their breath and slow down a bit, but not much! :) "Set Me Off" and "Suzanne" got everyone going big time. And that was a great lead-in for one of the favorites for the Army's faithful followers..."Masters of the Universe", which had plenty of people singing and dancing. "Boardwalk Braveheart" went over great with the crowd, but we all knew that we didn't have much time left...and that's always a downer. And when it was time for the finale, "Jefe Goes Home", I took my last pic of the guys and got ready for The Untouchables.
The guys played every song with all their heart poured into them, it was great! The audience could be heard singing, cheering, and even screaming. And a few times the words "We Love You!" erupted from the audience and in responce Chris and the guys could be heard sayin' "We Love You Too!".
And finally it was time for The Untouchables. As always they played like the giants of music that they are. The most enjoyable part for me was the 'SpySongTrio', "James Bond", "Double-0 Soul" and "I Spy". Ok! So, I was stoked when I went to take a pic of Clyde and he pointed right at me! :)
All things considered, it was a truly enjoyable night. Most of my time was spent on the dance floor with Kelly, dancin', takin' pics, and havin' a great time. This was definately a memorable night, and I thank the guys for thinking to invite me!
