Ventura Theatre - September 22nd, 1998

Talk about an awesome show! Take Chris' energy, add Dan and Aaron's energy and dancin', Jon's wildfire style on drums, Owen's talent on keys, Oné's deep bass, Mike's cool beat, and the Ventura Theatre's fabulous lighting and sound systems...what do you get?
ONE KICK ASS SHOW!

Needless to say Army of Freshmen was in top shape! The vocals were strong, everything Chris said/sang was really clear and showed off his awesome voice. His hyper personality and crazy-fun style really got the crowd going. Everyone seemed to enjoy watchin' Chris jump around on stage. Dan and Aaron walked on stage calm, cool, and collected, then they proceeded to show why they are THE MAD ASS HORNS, ditching their jackets and jumping right into some awesome choreography...including several jumps perfectly timed to the music. Once again Jon was seen sportin' overalls with no shirt, "a true treat" as one girl put it, was poundin' his heart out on drums. Dropping into a solo at one point, Jon received mass applause, whistles, and even a few screams. Owen, as always, was spinnin' as he slammed the keys, helpin' to add to the energy of the show. For the most part Oné kept it very straight with a few well-timed hyper moments, and nearly all night he was flashin' his infectious grin! Slightly hidden behind the horns, Mike was a bit hard to see, but he was heard and felt. He smoothed the set out a bit, and played it real cool. After the set, Army of Freshmen received uproarious applause, whistles, and tons of screamin'.

The crowd really got into three of the songs..."Masters of the Universe", "Show Me Boss" and a song originally done by The Proclaimers "I'm Gonna Be". "Masters of the Universe" got nearly everyone doing the 'He-Man', "Show Me Boss" had people up and dancin', and "I'm Gonna Be" started a massive pogo session.

I spoke to a few people in the audience and the general opinion was that they rocked, which of course they did! The girls I spoke with had their favorite song, favorite band member, or were just amazed on the whole. All of the people I talked to had never seen AOF before but loved them, which says a lot about the talent of the band. The more exposure the band gets...the better. They have an all around appeal. Swingers, punkers, metalers, and ska lovers of all ages really enjoy AOF's music.

All things considered, it was a show to remember. And I will have pictures up as soon as I get them developed and uploaded! :)
